When byline isn't showing up

Connecting byline to an AI tool is usually a two-minute job: paste your connection link, sign in once, done. When it doesn't take, it's almost always one of these handful of snags. Here's how to clear each one, no technical knowledge needed.

byline isn't in the list

After you paste your connection link, byline should appear among the tool's connectors. If it doesn't:

  • Add it as a custom connection, in the tool's Connectors or integrations settings. byline won't turn up if you search for it by name in a built-in directory.
  • Check you pasted the whole link, with nothing trimmed off either end. It is:
https://byline.fyi/api/mcp
  • Save or confirm, then reopen the connectors list. Some tools only show a new connection after a refresh.

It never asked you to sign in

The first time a tool connects, byline pops up so you can sign in with your byline account and approve the connection once. If that never happened:

  • You may have pasted a slightly wrong link. Copy it again from your byline dashboard (it's the same link for every tool) and re-add it.
  • If a sign-in window opened and closed before you finished, remove the connection, add it back, and complete the sign-in this time.
  • Sign in with the same byline account your channels are connected to. A different account opens an empty workspace.

It says nothing found yet

If the tool connects fine but byline comes back empty, it usually just hasn't read enough yet:

  • byline needs at least one channel connected. Open your dashboard, go to Connect, and add a source: Instagram, your website, YouTube, or email.
  • Give it a little time. byline reads in the background, and your voice card fills in as it goes. It always tells you how much it has read so far.
  • If your free trial has ended and you haven't subscribed, byline stops reading new content. Subscribe from the Billing page and it picks back up.

Wrong workspace

byline keeps each brand's memory separate. If a tool answers in the wrong voice, or with nothing at all:

  • Check you signed in with the byline account that actually holds your content, not a second one made by accident.
  • On Studio you can run more than one brand profile. Make sure the tool is connected to the right one.
  • To switch, remove the connection in your tool and add it again, signing in to the workspace you want.

Your tool can't add a connection link

Not every tool can take a connection link, and some only allow it on certain plans:

  • In ChatGPT, custom connections live in the connector settings and can depend on your plan.
  • If your tool has nowhere to paste a link, it can't connect to byline yet. Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT on supported plans all work today.
  • Your byline memory is the same everywhere, so connect it in a tool that supports it and your voice still shows up.

Still stuck after a reconnect

If you've pasted the link, signed in, connected a channel, and byline still isn't showing up:

  • Remove the connection completely, then add it back with a freshly copied link.
  • Confirm a channel is connected and showing content in your byline dashboard.
  • Still nothing? Get in touch and we'll take a look with you.
