Your voice from Instagram, YouTube, your website and newsletter, in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor
byline reads your connected Instagram, what's said in your YouTube videos, your website and your newsletter, and builds a voice profile from that work. Then, over MCP, Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor can read the profile and search your past work while you draft. LinkedIn import isn't available yet.
Your connection link is the same in every tool:

What MCP is, and what byline adds
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor connect to outside tools and data. byline is a remote MCP server. Once you add it, your AI tool can ask byline for your voice profile and your past work while you draft. You sign in with your byline account. There's no API key to copy.
What your AI tool can do through byline
- Read your voice profile, which covers your topics, voice, recurring themes, audience, formats and posting rhythm, built from the work byline has processed.
- Search your past work by meaning and by matching words, filtered by platform, content type or date. Results can include a title, an excerpt, the source link and video time ranges.
- Pin facts such as "my newsletter is called The Long Way, lowercase", then update, list or read them later.
- List and select workspaces, so on Studio you can switch between up to 5 clients.
- List your sources, add an eligible source or queue a sync. Instagram still connects through the dashboard.
- Give you your content back, a transcript, or what byline learned about your voice, when you ask.
Questions from connected tools don't count toward your plan's reading allowance. They're still subject to request limits.
Set up byline in Claude
Open Sources in your byline dashboard and choose Connect to Claude. Claude opens with byline already filled in. Confirm it and sign in once.
Custom connectors are on Claude Pro and Max. On a Team workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner sets them up. Enterprise has separate permissions. Claude Free doesn't include custom connectors.
Set up byline in ChatGPT
Choose Connect to ChatGPT. If ChatGPT asks you to turn on developer mode, turn it on first. Add your own connection, name it byline, paste https://byline.fyi/api/mcp and choose sign-in. Create it, sign in once in the browser, install the connection, and switch the chat to Work mode. Mention byline when you want ChatGPT to use your work.
Custom connections are on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu. On Business, an admin or owner creates the connection. Pro has a narrower read and fetch connection. Plus doesn't include it.
Set up byline in Cursor
Choose Connect to Cursor. Cursor opens and asks you to add byline. Sign in once when Cursor asks.
Prompts to start with
- "List my byline workspaces and select [client]."
- "Read my byline profile, then draft a caption for this launch in my voice."
- "Search byline for my posts about pricing and show the sources."
- "Remember in byline that the product name is always lowercase."
Your AI tool decides when to call byline, and it may not do it on its own. Ask for byline by name when the context matters, and check what it cites.
byline and Claude Projects
A Claude Project keeps instructions and files you upload inside Claude. That works well for one voice in one tool, if you keep the files up to date yourself.
byline reads your channels and updates your profile from new work. The same profile is available in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, and on Studio each client has a separate workspace. If you only write in Claude for one person and don't mind refreshing the files, a Project may be all you need.
What byline's MCP server doesn't do
- It doesn't read LinkedIn or TikTok yet. byline reads Instagram, YouTube, websites with a public sitemap, and email sent to your workspace inbox.
- It doesn't post or schedule anything, on any platform.
- It isn't always in your tool's built-in connector directory. Add it with the link above.
Pricing
Creator is $0.99 for the first month, then $29/month, for 1 workspace. Studio is $0.99 for the first month, then $99/month, for up to 5 client workspaces with 5 seats each. Both introductory months use Creator reading allowances. Annual plans are $261 and $891, upfront, with no introductory month. There is no free trial. The MCP connection is included in both plans, with unlimited connected tools.
$0.99 for your first month for eligible monthly payers, cancel anytime.
MCP questions
What is the byline MCP server URL?+
https://byline.fyi/api/mcp. It's the same link in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, and it's also on Sources in your byline dashboard. You sign in with your byline account, with no API key.
Which Claude plans support the byline MCP connector?+
Custom connectors are on Claude Pro and Max. On a Team workspace, an Owner or Primary Owner sets them up, and Enterprise has separate permissions. Claude Free doesn't include custom connectors.
Can I use byline in ChatGPT?+
Yes, on plans with custom connections, which are ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu. On Business, an admin or owner creates the connection. ChatGPT Pro has a narrower read and fetch connection, and ChatGPT Plus doesn't include custom connections.
Is byline a LinkedIn MCP server?+
No. byline doesn't read or post to LinkedIn. LinkedIn import is on the coming-soon list. Today byline reads Instagram, YouTube, a website or blog with a public sitemap, and email sent to your workspace inbox.
Does byline work as an Instagram or YouTube MCP?+
Partly. byline reads your own Instagram Professional account and your public YouTube channel, and serves what it learned to your AI tool. It doesn't post, read DMs, read other accounts or provide analytics beyond like, comment and view counts.
Do MCP requests count toward my byline plan?+
Questions from connected AI tools, such as searching your work or reading your profile, don't use your monthly item or video-minute allowance. Asking byline to read new work does, for example adding a URL or queueing a sync, the same as it would from the dashboard. You still need an active paid or complimentary plan, and requests are subject to request limits and cost-safety controls.
Why isn't my AI tool using byline?+
The AI tool decides when to call a connector. Ask it to use byline by name, check that it selected the right workspace, and confirm that your sources have finished reading. If a saved sign-in has expired, reconnect from the same button and sign in again.
How is byline different from a Claude Project?+
A Claude Project holds instructions and files you upload, inside Claude. byline builds a profile from your connected channels, updates it as you publish, and makes the same profile available in Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor.
